A military helicopter from the United States was hit by gunfire during an operation in Caracas, Venezuela, carried out in the early hours of January 3, 2025.
According to President Donald Trump, several American military personnel were injured, but there were no fatalities, and all the aircraft involved were able to return safely, despite the damage recorded on one of the helicopters.
The operation was part of an attempt to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro at a highly protected location. Trump stated that American forces had managed to suppress the country’s air defenses and insert special operations units from Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters, highlighting that the mission encountered strong resistance on the ground.
According to reports from the American press, the operation had direct support from the CIA, which monitored Maduro’s movements through continuous surveillance drones and internal sources in Venezuela. Two Delta Force units, deployed from the Middle East and North Africa, were reportedly mobilized after months of preparation that began in December 2025 but were delayed due to adverse weather conditions and strategic decisions made by the US government.
